Getting Connected

If you computer is not network capable, follow the instructions below.

Installing a PCI / ISA Ethernet card

  1. Turn off your computer system and unplug it.
  2. Remove computer case so you can access your PCI or ISA slot.
  3. Ground yourself by using a ground strap or by touching the bare metal of the case. This helps prevent damaging any components via static shock.
  4. Locate the slot you would like to install your card, and remove the screw & slot cover that may be covering the PCI / ISA slot.
  5. Gently push the card into the slot until it fits correctly into the slot.
  6. Screw the ethernet card into place.
  7. Close the computer case.
  8. Connect Ethernet cable from the data jack to your Ethernet card.
Installing Ethernet card drivers

Please refer to your instruction manual that came included with your computer or ethernet card. For students using Windows XP or Windows Vista, in most cases the operating system will be able to detect the ethernet card.

However, it is recommended to have the CD that came with your ethernet card & computer. The CD may be required to successfully complete your ethernet card driver installation.
