Before connecting to the network
Welcome to Fayetteville State University. ITTS is committed to providing you with a high quality, secure campus network connection from your Dorm room.
To connect to the campus network, you need a network-capable computer, an Ethernet cable and you will utilize the RJ-45 port connection provided in your Dorm room. If you need a longer cable, you may purchase one at the Bookstore or any computer store or supply outlet. While there is support for wireless network connections throughout campus, we do not support wireless network connections in the Dorms.
To get started plug one end of your cable into the RJ-45 port in your room and the other end into your computer and power up your computer. Open up a browser (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, etc.,) and you will prompted with the Consentry portal login page. On the left you will see a login box, use your university issued Network Login and password. To protect you and the availability of the Internet, each machine will be scanned before it is permitted to connect to the Internet. This scan is called posture check or end point validation (EPV). Each scan takes approximately 30 seconds and does not require any special software installed on your machine.
Some checks that the EPV performs are:
- Out-of-date virus definition files
- Out-of-date operating system (Service packs and hot fixes)
- Disabled or missing antivirus software
- Disabled or missing firewall
- Malicious key loggers
- Out-of-date antivirus scan engines
- Windows registy key values
For Your Information
If your computer fails any of the checks mentioned above you will not be allowed to connect to the network until the problem is corrected. If for some reason you are not provided with the ConSentry login screen or cannot connect to the Internet after you logon or for help correcting problems or general question about connecting your computer please call the helpdesk at 910.672.2085.
