Policies and Requirements

The following policies and requirements apply to all FSU staff, students, and guests when using the campus data network and computing resources provided by FSU.

In order to provide you with the most up-to-date media and technological services, FSU has certain requirements concerning the type of computer students should have. There are certain programs and operating systems that make using your computer at FSU much easier.

FSU has certain rules to abide by while using your computer. These rules are in place to protect you and the entire student population from all manner of computer issues. Disregard for these rules can result in disciplinary measures.

Minimum Computer Requirements

These configurations are sufficiently robust to handle the current operating systems and the associated application software. The recommended hardware systems specified for new purchases are sufficient to run new operating systems as they are made available.

Student Computer Standards: Minimum Configurations

PCs

• Intel Dual Core or Core Duo (Pentium D or AMD Dual Core)
• 2 GB memory
• 160 GB hard drive or higher
• DVDRW
• Ethernet card and cable
• WPA2 A/G/N wireless card.
• Windows XP SP3, Vista Business SP2, or Windows 7 Pro

Macs

• Intel Mac
• 2 GB memory
• 160 GB hard drive or higher
• WPA 2 A/G/N wireless card
• Ethernet card and cable
• OS 10.5 or Higher

Student Computer Standards: Recommended Configurations

• 4 GB Memory or more
• 160+ GB hard drive
• DVDRW
• Ethernet card and cable
• WPA2 A/G/N wireless card
• Windows XP SP3, Vista Busines SP2, or Windows 7 Pro

• 160+ GB hard drive
• Ethernet card and cable
• WPA2 compatible wireless card
• Operating system 10.5 or higher and Microsoft Office
