In order to provide you with the most up-to-date media and technological services, FSU has certain requirements concerning the type of computer students should have. There are certain programs and operating systems that make using your computer at FSU much easier.
FSU has certain rules to abide by while using your computer. These rules are in place to protect you and the entire student population from all manner of computer issues. Disregard for these rules can result in disciplinary measures.
Wireless routers not installed and managed by the Fayetteville State University ITTS department are not permitted on the Fayetteville State University Network.
Consumer wireless router models do not provide the manageability or security that the campus wireless access points provide. In addition, personal non-enterprise wireless access points may create interference with our enterprise wireless access points, impact the network performance of wireless network users, or confuse faculty, staff, students or guests with an unknown and insecure wireless network. If caught with a personal wireless router in your room, you should expect to have your room's network connection disabled until we can confirm the router was removed.
These configurations are sufficiently robust to handle the current operating systems and the associated application software. The recommended hardware systems specified for new purchases are sufficient to run new operating systems as they are made available.
