Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Focus on Healthcare Management

Introduction
The Fayetteville State University M.B.A. program with a specialization in Health Care Management is designed to provide graduate education for individuals interested in furthering their careers in the management and administration of health care delivery organizations, such as, hospitals, integrated health care systems, managed care firms, as well as health care planning and consulting. 

The program is planned for holders of a bachelor’s degree with employment experience in the health care industry regardless of previous undergraduate or graduate fields of study.  For the convenience of students most classes are offered in the evenings while selected courses are offered online.  Provided that a student enrolls in two courses per semester, the entire curriculum, which consists of 36-54 credit hours, could be completed in 2-3 years. However, students have up to six years to earn a degree.  

Admission
Admission is based on the following criteria:

  • Educational qualifications

  • Health care related experience

  • Satisfactory score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

Note: The GMAT is waived for those applicants with an earned doctorate ( M. D. or Ph.D.) degree.

Application Procedure
The M.B.A Office must receive the following documents before the admission process begins:

  • A completed application form with a $25 non-refundable application fee

  • Official transcripts for undergraduate and graduate degrees. 

  • Official GMAT scores (if applicable)

Admission for Professional Development

Individuals who plan to take courses for personal enrichment or have not taken the GMAT may be admitted under the “Professional Development” status. However, this does not constitute admission to the M.B.A. program.

Applicants who have not taken the GMAT before full admission into the program will be permitted to enroll in up to 12 hours (maximum of six (6) credit hours at 600 level). Provided the student meets the admission requirements at a later time, the courses completed with a minimum grade of “B” will be used to fulfill the student’s degree requirements.

Transfer of Credits
A maximum of six semester hours of graduate credit with a grade of “B” or better may be transferred from another accredited institution and applied to the minimum 36 hours. Coursework transferred must not be older than six (6) years by the time the degree is awarded.

Curriculum
The curriculum consists of three groups of courses designed to ensure that students have acquired basic skill in functional area of business (Group I); advanced business knowledge (Group II); and specific health care administration core concepts (Group III).

Group I: Foundation Courses- 0-18 Hours (May be waived)
Each course is 1.5 credit hours and is completed during ½ of a semester.  Each 500-level course if offered in sequence with its successive course.

Students with appropriate undergraduate preparation and/or GMAT score above 25th percentile may have several or all of Group I courses waived.  Otherwise they can either enroll or challenge the courses.
