Cape Fear Valley Health System and Fayetteville State University are teaming to provide a new masters program this fall.
A masters in business administration with a focus in healthcare will be available for those who wish to further their careers in healthcare management and administration, as well as those who conduct healthcare planning and consulting. The fall semester starts in August.
Development of this unique collaboration has been spearheaded by Dr. Eugene Wright, Jr., Vice President of Primary Care Services at Cape Fear Valley Health System, and Dr. Assad Tavakoli, Director of the MBA Program at Fayetteville State University.
The program is expected to help cultivate well-qualified managers and leaders at not only Cape Fear Valley Health System, but all hospitals throughout Southeastern North Carolina.
Admission criteria will be based on educational qualifications, healthcare-related experience and the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test).
The curriculum will consist of 0-18 credit hours that may be required in foundation courses, plus 24 credit hours in core courses and 12 credit hours in healthcare courses.
Healthcare related courses will include the American Healthcare System, Healthcare Finance & Control, Healthcare Information Systems & Performance, Managed Care & Contracting, Ethical & Legal Issues in Healthcare, Leading Change in Healthcare Organizations, and Current Topics in Healthcare.
The partnership between Cape Fear Valley and Fayetteville State will involve team teaching. Members of Cape Fear Valley’s executive team will conduct periodic Saturday seminars with case presentations. In exchange, professors from FSU will assist on projects at the health system.
The two-year program will also provide internships at the health system to give students “real world” experience prior to graduating.
