Research Interests:
The focus of my research is to provide genetic and
biochemical evidence for a de novo folic acid pathway
in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, PAO1 as well as
identifying biochemical pathways in the in the rice blast
fungus, Magnaporthe grisea that may have putative
roles in infection and pathogenesis. By using genetic
biochemical analysis we are attempting to establish the
existence of key enzymes in the de novo folic acid
pathway that are genetically and biochemically similar to
their E. coli homologs that may serve as a target for
novel antimicrobial agents. Research with the rice
blast fungus Magnaporthe grisea, relies on using
genetic disruption of key genes shown to be unregulated
during infection and may have a roles in regulating early
events of the host-pathogen recognition process, including
the induction of a specialized infection cell, the
appressorium as well as during a full blown infection.
