Research Interests:

Risk and protective factors (and their interactions and reciprocal interdependencies) in predicting long term outcomes for substance-abusing juvenile offenders; Family communication processes within and across subsystems (e.g., marital, parent-child, sibling, etc.) that forecast adaptive and maladaptive outcomes for children, adolescents and adults across different racial and cultural groups; Interdependencies of family-of-origin experiences with primary caregivers, attachment beliefs and interpersonal schema, and the quality of marital or steady romantic relationships; Marital transitions (divorce and remarriage), concomitant changes in family processes, and child outcomes; Sociocultural (e.g., racism) and psychological (e.g., cognitive and affective processes) factors related to mental and physical health disparities among minority populations.
