Sheila Cannon, PhD, APRN-PMH, BC obtained her degrees from Hampton University (PhD), University of Virginia (MSN & BSN), and Cameron University (AD).  She has been an RN for 28 years, a practicing board certified advanced practice registered nurse APRN / psychiatric clinician since 1996, and an educator for 17 years. She has taught across the curriculum; mental health, fundamentals in nursing, advanced medical surgical nursing, leadership, and research.  However, she is passionate about mental health and practiced as a Clinical Psychopharmacologist/Psychotherapist in a large practice group south of Boston. She has led many faculty development initiatives that focused on infusing cultural competency in the curriculum and the use of best practices in information technologies for online and blended pedagogy. Additionally, she has long standing expertise in online learning management systems and online pedagogy, ‘Writing across the Curriculum’ projects, and has received prior funding for incorporating “Strategies for NCLEX Success for Students.”  Her research encompasses racial disparities in health, cancer care, and caregiving. She has several publications and works in progress.
