New Discoveries

The Office of Research Initiatives is instrumental in leading the School of Education to new discoveries and to ensure that those discoveries are incorporated into society in a productive and beneficial manner.

Purpose

The Office Of Research Initiatives is located in the Butler Building; Suite 315. The suite is for graduate students in the School of Education here at Fayetteville State University, as well as faculty and staff. With seven computers and an array of research materials; All students in the School of Education will feel welcomed while researching and completing their studies. The Office of Research Initiatives provides services to: SOE full and part-time tenured/tenure track faculty, and adjunct faculty. We also provide services for students (by appointment)

Journal of Research Initiatives

The Journal of Research Initiatives  welcomes research articles, conceptual articles, book reviews, best practices, and commentaries, in keeping with editorial policy. The inaugural issue released December 2013 provided a platform for researchers and educators to present new research and developments in the field of education.  Volume 1, Issue 2 was published November 2014.

Call for Papers

You are invited to submit manuscripts for possible inclusion in the Journal of Research initiatives. If you are interested in submitting a manuscript, please review the call for papers guidelines available on the Journal of Research Initiatives website.  JRI is currently accepting submissions for Volume 2, Issue 1, scheduled for released November 2015. The submission deadline is May 15, 2015.

The JRI areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

educational leadership

theory of education

teacher education

administration and supervision

curriculum studies

gender issues in higher education

emerging issues in leadership

K-12 teaching and learning

technology in education

philosophy of education

special education

trends in higher education

K-12 academic achievement

best practices in education

cross-cultural studies

 

Call for Conceptual Papers

The Journal of Research Initiatives encourages the submission of articles which are broadly conceptual with the goal of building theory and /or reviewing and evaluating the body of research in a substantive and important area. The goals of these papers should be to: (a) improve conceptual clarity, (b) provide a holistic review of the current research, and (c) propose new opportunities, ideas, and theories.

Conceptual manuscripts provide readers with new and innovative perspectives on timely and relevant topics for public and higher education educators. This manuscript category includes both philosophical and conceptual works and includes comprehensive literature reviews. Support for the ideas must be provided through related literature, and implications for education research and practice must be addressed. Conceptual manuscripts should not exceed 15 pages, not including references.

Call for Best Practices

Articles that appear in this section discuss a specific education topic or subject matter, such as, digital literacy, challenges of first-year college students, course and program design, multiple roles of the college professor, designing generally, etc. These articles present information that the reader can easily absorb.

Consider one of these ways of organizing your article:

  •  Provide a step by step, "how to," instructional discussion of the topic. 
  •  Discuss the subject from a particular point of view or angle. 
  •  Offer a timeline of the subject. 

 Discuss the topic by way of presenting a case study of how it was applied in a work setting. Focus on lessons learned and successes experienced. 

Tone and Style

Best practice articles are written in the third person. In other words, the article speaks directly to the professionals; it should not contain "you" statements. The article should not be a commercial promotion for a specific product, school or university. It should be informational- that is, it should be an educational idea or concept-focused rather than product- or school/university-focused.

Provide background information on the author(s) along with a brief description and contact information for the institution, if applicable. If your educational institution has implemented a new educational strategy or you have a new innovative best practice, please consider submitting a manuscript here . Let the editor-in-chief know whether the article has been submitted or accepted to other journals. Reprints generally are not published.

 

Call for Book Reviews

Book review articles may vary and range from 1,000 to 2,500 words. Book reviews must be sent as a word document and submitted online through the journal's website. Detailed information about the reviewed book should be listed in the following order: Book title; author(s); publication year; publisher; city; total number of pages; price as it applies to hardcover and/or paperback copy.

The reviewer's name, academic degree, title, and contact details (institutional affiliation mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address) should be listed. Book reviews should follow APA format. The submission should include a detailed synopsis of the book and should be suitable for the K-12 and higher education readers. Your published book review will be available open-access immediately here.
