Dear Member of the Class of 2013:
Welcome to Fayetteville State University! Thanks for joining the FSU community; I’m confident you will find an environment that will allow you to develop and realize your dreams and aspirations for the future. As one of the oldest universities in North Carolina, you are joining an academic community steeped in traditions that root us in our past, but also prepare us for the unpredictable future ahead. We are thrilled about your enthusiasm and your motivation to attend FSU. The Division of Student Affairs has assembled this orientation guide to provide key information regarding campus services to facilitate your transition to campus life.
You have a wonderful opportunity for developing new relationships when you become a member of the Bronco Family. We encourage you to become an active participant in your community. Among the first people to greet you at Fayetteville State University will be your Resident Assistant (RA) and your Orientation Leader (OL). These students are great resources for questions and problems. If they cannot help you, they know who can.
The people most essential to creating a supportive and stimulating community is you and your fellow students. You will receive a great deal of freedom at Fayetteville State University and you are expected to respond maturely to your increased responsibilities.
As you arrive on campus, you will hear more and more about University expectations in your classes, residence hall, student organizations and campus media. It is clearly an expectation that you as a select group of students, will demonstrate, through your presence, that you are a high achiever whose appearance and behavior is that of a future leader of the world. We look forward to greeting you at New Student Orientation on August 15, 2009. The information provided will introduce you to the Fayetteville State University community and provide the tools to help you navigate campus, so be sure to read the enclosed materials. In addition, we have also included a tentative schedule of events planned for Freshman Orientation. Please note, locations are subject to change. A final schedule of events will be provided upon check-in.
We hope that your years at Fayetteville State University will be challenging, fulfilling, and enjoyable.
Best wishes for the rest of your summer!
Sincerely,
Janice Haynie, Ph.D. Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
