FSU’s
ACADEMIC TEAM REACHES FINAL FOUR
Ranking Makes School History
Fayetteville State University's Honda Campus All-Star team made school history with a third place finish in the national Honda Campus All-Star Challenge in Orlando, FL. The question-and-answer competition for Historically Black Colleges and Universities is sponsored by Honda Motor Company, which spends millions of dollars on the program every year.
FSU won all 7 of their head-to-head matches in their division, with such winning scores as 400-90, 355-100, and 305-95. The Broncos squared off against previous HCASC champions, Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA). in the Final Four. The Broncos put up a valiant fight with a 135-110 score, Morehouse, at the half but the Broncos missed several bonus questions and fell 275-170.
Although
the team was disappointed, it took consolation in advancing farther than any
Fayetteville State group ever had in the national competition. The Broncos also
brought home a $15,000 check for scholarships and grants. Over the past 8 years,
the FSU HCASC team has won approximately $80,000.

Members of the 2005 FSU All-star team were: Roger Belton (Sr., Buffalo, NY); Victor Barrett (Jr., Reidsville); Talia Higgs (Sr., Fayetteville); Darrin Farr (Sr., Southern Pines); and Jerry Wilson, Jr. (Jr., Charlotte). Fayetteville State has consistently made strides in the national competition.
The team, along with the other universities who made it to the Sweet 16 were honored with a full-page ad in the USA TODAY as well as BET's Nightly News.
