Commuter Students

If you are a student who lives off-campus and utilize some form of transportation to travel to and from campus then you are a commuter student! More than 75% of all FSU students are commuters. Commuter Students are our community contacts and are an important part of the University's connection to the greater Fayetteville area.

As a commuter student you often face challenges that students living on campus do not. It is the purpose of Commuter & Student Services to help you with these challenges and to help address any concerns you may have regarding your experience as a commuter.

Common Concerns of Commuter Students include:
  1. Balancing Multiple Roles: coordinate roles of student, parent, employee or employer, spouse, volunteer, etc.
  2. Incorporating Support Systems: negotiate with family and employers to generate the necessary support to attend college, negotiating with significant others for time away to study, establishing priorities, making time to get more involved on campus.
  3. Getting to Campus: method of transportation, available parking, vehicle emergencies, inclement weather, transportation costs, traffic, detours, synchronize drive time with class schedules, etc.
  4. Accessing resources on campus.
  5. Sense of belonging:
    1. feeling like part of the university family
    2. making time to bond and connect with people on campus
    3. finding ways to become more involved on campus
    4. keeping up with campus events and announcements
