THE LICENSURE PROCESS


After successfully completing the student teaching/teacher intern experience and all required coursework for a degree, students may make application for a North Carolina teaching license.

To apply for an initial teaching license, students must complete the following documents and submit to the Office of Teacher Education:

  • An Application for Licensure of North Carolina Professional School Personnel (Form A)

  • Official degree-dated transcript (A black and white copy is not official)

  • Student Teaching Performance in the Public Schools (Form S)

  • PRAXIS II, specialty areas test scores (Elementary Education and Special Education Students)

  • Processing fee (check, credit card, or money order) payable to the Department of Public Instruction

The Director of Teacher Education will complete Verification of Program Completion (Form V) and submit to the Licensure Section of the Department of Public Instruction.

The license will be mailed to the applicant from the Department of Public Instruction.
