Dr. Erica Campbell, Associate Professor in The School of Social Work at Fayetteville State University (FSU), and Dr. Kim Stansbury of the Department of Social Work at North Carolina State University, were recently awarded a $50,000 grant from the Spencer Foundation to support their research exploring college campus readiness to address intimate partner violence (IPV) among sexual and gender minority (SGM) or LGBTQ+ students.

The highly competitive grant will explore the unique physical, psychological, sexual, & financial IPV experiences of SGM students, and the frequency, severity, and rates of bidirectionality at which they occur. This research will draw conclusions on the relevancy of available counseling services for SGM students at various learning institutions across the United States. It will also examine the perceptions of both students, and mental health providers regarding the accessibility and effectiveness of these services for SGM students experiencing IPV.
