Application Requirements for the Master's in Psychology-Counseling Track

1.     Application

The application form to the Master's in Psychology-Counseling Track can be found here.

2.     Supplemental Application-Personal Statement

Download the supplemental application to the Master's in Counseling track here (Word document). Please answer all questions and send to Office of Admissions, Fayetteville State University.

3.     Application Fee

The non-refundable $40 application fee for the Graduate Psychology Program-Counseling Track can be submitted with a credit/debit card or with cash or check (payable to Fayetteville State University) sent to Admission Office. 

4.     Official Transcripts

Submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. An undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.6 is required. To be eligible for full acceptance into the Graduate Counseling Program, your undergraduate work needs to include:

  • Applicants must have an earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, with an overall minimum 2.60 average on a 4.00 scale for all undergraduate work or a minimum 3.00 average in the last 60 hours of study, which may include no more than 12 hours of graduate study.

  • Twelve (12) undergraduate coursework in Psychology including General Psychology, Statistics, Research Methods in Psychology, and one additional substantive course in psychology (preferable abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, introduction to clinical and counseling psychology, or multicultural psychology).*

*If you do not currently have these prerequisites met, you can still be accepted into the Graduate Counseling Program on a conditional basis while you complete the undergraduate courses.  

5.     Recommendations

Submit two recommendation forms, from professional reference, including at least one academic reference, to Admission Office. Recommendation forms can be downloaded here.

6.     Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

The Graduate Record Exam must be completed and official scores sent to Fayetteville State University Admission Office. The Testing Center at Fayetteville State University provides the computer based GRE. The GRE scoring methodology was adjusted in the Fall of 2011. A combined score of 290 on the Verbal and Quantitative sections is desired but not required. Note: Applicants with a master's degree or higher from an accredited college/university are exempt from the GRE requirement

7.     Curriculum Vitae

A current CV reflecting any paid and/or volunteer experience is required.
