Interim
Grades
Interim grades serve as warnings to students who are at risk
of failing a course due to non-attendance if they do not take
immediate corrective action. The interim grading period begins on
the first day after the close of registration and continues until
one week prior to the deadline for withdrawing from classes. Faculty
members assign the interim grades of X and EA as soon as warranted
by the student’s attendance. Students are responsible for monitoring
interim grades and taking actions in response to them. Interim
grades are not permanent and have no effect on a student’s earned
hours and grade point average.
Grade Meaning – Effect
X (No-Show) - Student does not attend class
during the first week of semester/term. Student must either begin
attending class or withdraw from it. Students who fail to take
actions in response to interim grade of X will receive a final grade
of F. In online classes, an X grade is assigned to enrolled students
who do not interact with the course website for the first week of
the semester/term.
X grade is not a final grade - If your
instructor has issued an X grade as a final grade, it will be
converted to FN.
EA (Excessive Absences) - Student’s class
absences exceed 10% of their total contact hours. Student must
resume class attendance or withdraw from it. Students who do not
withdraw will receive a final grade based on evaluation criteria of
the class.
EA is not a final grade - If your instructor
has issued an EA grade as final grade, it will be converted to an
FN.
Midterm Grades
Midterm grades provide an assessment of student progress
in courses during the first half of the semester. Students
earning a midterm grade of D or F in a class must take corrective
action to improve their academic status or withdraw from the course.
All faculty teaching undergraduate courses are required to post
midterm grades for all students. All
students are required to review their midterm grades in their
on-line accounts.
Final Grades - I cannot see my grades in
Banner Self Service during Final Grading period.
Banner has a three step grading process that takes place
each final grading cycle. Grades cannot be immediately seen in
banner self service once the faculty submits them until this three
step process has completed. This office will run this process twice
daily during the grading period, morning and afternoon. This also
affects GPA.
What is an FN grade?
An FN grade is issued by an instructor to a student is
failing the class due to non attendance. This grade was reinstituted
fall 2007. This grade is issued to graduate and undergraduate
student for any course the student is failing due to non attendance
and has the same effect as an "F" grade.
My GPA is not correct
Have all your grades been posted? You could be viewing your
GPA at at time when the 3 step grading process has not yet completed
or all grades have not been submitted by the instructor. Use the GPA
calculator on our website as well.
Withdrawing from classes
If you are trying to withdraw from all your classes, you must
withdraw from the University for the semester. You can return the
next semester without reapplying. If we see you have all Ws for
grades, we will withdraw you from the university for that semester
effective the date you withdrew from the last class.
Withdrawing from the University
If for some reason you are not able to complete the
semester, a student will withdraw from all classes using the
Withdraw from Semester option. The student will receive a final
grade of WU in all classes. The student will be able to return to
the university the next semester without having to reapply for
admissions.
I have an Incomplete "I" grade - What do I
do?
An "I" grade must be removed before the expiration of the
first nine weeks o the student's next regular semester (fall or
spring) of enrollment, or within 12 months of the last day of the
semester or term in which the "I" grade was assigned. If the "I"
grade is not removed within the stipulated time, the grade will be
converted to "F". Students are responsible for initiating the
actions necessary to remove the "I" grades.
