In August 2009, the UNC Board of Governors approved the implementation of a “hard waiver” student health insurance requirement on all sixteen 4-year campuses beginning in fall 2010. The term “hard waiver” means any student meeting three specific criteria is required to show evidence of an existing “creditable coverage” health insurance policy OR enroll in the UNC system-wide plan. For more information associated with the health insurance requirement use the links below. To view benefits for the 2012-13 academic years, please click here.
The three specific criteria include:
|Waive||Any student meeting the university-sponsored health plan requirements who has other creditable insurance (e.g. individual policy, coverage through a parent, Medicaid, Medicare, etc) is able to waive out of the University-sponsored plan easily and quickly on-line. Click the “Waive” button to the left and enter the requested information.|
|Enroll||Any student meeting the university-sponsored health plan requirements who does NOT have other creditable insurance (e.g. individual policy, coverage through a parent, Medicaid, Medicare, etc) will be automatically enrolled in the University- sponsored plan, but if you would like to confirm your participation in this plan, you may sign-up by clicking on the “Enroll” button to the left and enter the requested information. The premium will be automatically billed to your student account.|
For Current Students
|Renew||If you have already set up an account with Pearce & Pearce because you enrolled OR waived for the previous semester, you will need to click “Renew” to log back into your account and choose whether you wish to renew your enrollment or your waiver for the current semester. Once you have logged into your account, you will also have the option to switch if you so choose.|
