The Online Experience

Fayetteville State University offers you an opportunity to complete your degree online. Our courses are designed so that you can complete your entire course of study online without needing to attend classes on campus.

Courses at FSU are taught asynchronously with students interacting with their professor and other students via the internet at convenient times for each person. Students and faculty are not required to be online at the same time. However, some course may use a synchronous activity such as chat, in which case you will have to be present online at a particular time to participate.

Learning online allows you to participate from any location and interact with other learners around the corner or around the globe. Classroom discussions are replaced with the exchange of ideas conducted online. Because of this format, online courses require that you access the course site several times a week to read your peers ' contributions, respond with your own comments, and, perhaps, lead online discussions.

Course Components

Courses are delivered via the Blackboard Course Management System (http://blackboard.uncfsu.com). Given the nature of online coursework, there often may be a significant amount of required textbook and online readings. Be prepared to spend 5-6 hours per week reading and studying course materials.

Typically, you will be evaluated based on participation in online discussions and group projects, individual papers, written homework, and online quizzes and examinations.

The online courses at FSU use a variety of learning tools such as:

  • Private e-mail
  • Bulletin boards
  • Collaborative groups
  • Online quizzes
  • Live chat rooms
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Multimedia
