Name: Sharne
Hometown: New York
Major: Early Childhood Education
Sharne has driven herself to many great accomplishments, but her drive also consists of a passion that just didn’t develop overnight.
"Kids are so fascinating, says Sharne. I have a heart for kids and I understand that they need someone there for them. "
Sharne’s passion has led to many countless Saturday’s tutoring on behalf of Gear-Up & Upward Bound. After a full slate of classes beginning during the week, Sharne uses her day off inspiring kids through study.
"Anything that deals with kids, I am involved as much as possible" says Sharne.
Sharne also works at daycare centers back in her home state of New York. The daycare centers in New York range from six weeks to six years old and they only give Sharne the satisfaction of enjoyment.
"If for one moment, I could stop someone from crying or help a kid that was stressed out, that was all I needed," she says.
Along with helping kids, Sharne does humanitarian work for the community. She helped raise money for homebound senior citizens in an event similar to "Meals on Wheels." Her contributions helped raise money for an elderly man to live off of food for six months.
"If there are any types of events that need volunteers, I will usually help out."
Sharne is going to be a speech pathologist after she graduates and also set a chain of early childhood learning clinics/after school programs.
Her passion is evident by the goals set up around her. "I just love kids and I feel that if they are taken in early, there is so much you can prevent from happening and also promote," she says.
Sharne is grateful to FSU for the opportunities she has received in getting prepared for her career.
"I give back to FSU by doing my best and representing them as a successful FSU student."
