Name: Kimberly
Major: Art Education
Classification: Senior
Kimberly Anderson looks at the world from a unique perspective. In her eyes, the world is like art and every piece of art has a story. As the President of the FSU Art Guild, Kimberly uses her talent and ability to create stories that change the way we see the world.
What/Who influenced you to become involved in the arts?
My main influence came when I completed my senior project in High School. I had to make a decision as to what I really wanted to do with my life, something I would enjoy and wouldn’t give up on. When my parents gave me my first camera, I knew my heart was in photography. I started doing research and interning at a local photo studio. I knew my passion would be photography, so I decided to expand my knowledge of it.
What is your favorite medium, and what inspires you?
Photography is my favorite medium along with computer graphics. Looking at other artists’ work, visiting social interactive art sites online and hearing about stories and events from everyday life inspire my work.
Describe your artistic style.
My personal style is still being developed, though I am very allegorical. I feel as if there are stories out there to be told, and I have a gift and talent to share them with. I usually prefer simple color palettes and tight images, meaning there is a main point and direct focus.
What are your current projects?
Currently I am working on a collaboration of photography and computer graphic pieces, themed around matters of the heart. It focuses on the different mind sets of females (in the age range of 20-26) and how the effects of previous relationships are affecting them now in their present life.
Why did you choose to come to FSU?
My grandfather lives right across the street from FSU and has been there for over sixty years. I basically grew up in that house; I went to Ferguson-Easley Elementary and everyday after school, I would walk home or he would pick me up. We would have our talks at times, you know the "what do you want to be when you grow up." One day he told me I would go to FSU stay at the house with him, take care of him, and get my degree. When I applied to colleges I only applied to FSU. Ever since then, I have never regretted it.
What would you tell a prospective student about coming to FSU?
I would tell them to come with an open mind and focus. There will be those days when no one is there to wake you up for class, or get on you about your homework. You are going to have to push yourself, but you have to realize that you can do it. I will be graduating in May with a double major. I am the president of the FSU Art Guild which is a wonderful organization; I have visited China and will be returning in August with a scholarship to study for a year. All of this was possible because of FSU and the wonderful faculty.
