Name: Akilah
Major: Psychology
Hometown: Winston-Salem, NC
What have you been involved in while at FSU?
I have served as an ambassador for Fayetteville State University since my arrival in July 2006 by choosing to become a Bronco. As a member of the honors program, I can say I have done things like being a model student and by doing community service.
Name one of your biggest challenges.
One of my main challenges was finding a major... trying to figure out what I wanted to major in since I wanted to do so many things. I volunteered and gained experience in the different areas that I was interested in to help narrow down my many choices.
Describe the environment of FSU.
The nurturing environment that Fayetteville State University offers has been beneficial to my success. College can be tough sometimes, but when you have a group of professors and administrators on your side, success is easy; it is very uplifting and encouraging. I have grown and have learned so many things as a student at Fayetteville State University; my experience will forever stay with me.
How are you representing FSU?
I have represented Fayetteville State University on numerous occasions if not by giving a campus tour or just by simply mentioning that I attend such a great institution. I maintain academic excellence and show others how successful one can be inside the classroom. I have also had the opportunity to travel, recruit and inform aspiring students about FSU and what it has to offer.
How will you continue the FSU legacy?
I believe that I will be able to truly give back upon graduation and when I matriculate into the workforce and when I can continue the legacy and give back by showing the true essence of Bronco Pride.
What is the “Bronco Way?”
I will make sure that I do any and everything “The Bronco Way” which contains these four components: Positive Energy, Unity, High Expectations, and Accountability.
