AWARDS PROGRAM
The Fayetteville State University Staff Employee of the Year
Awards Program has been established to recognize the many contributions and
accomplishments of its employees both on the campus and in the community. The
Awards Program is designed to promote and recognize excellence and enhance
employee morale and productivity. It is also designed to encourage employee
growth, development and commitment by providing both incentives and
acknowledgments. This Award is the highest honor a staff employee may receive
for dedicated performance and the employee is invited to a special recognition
affair in September during State Employees Appreciation Week.
Eligible Employees
Nominees must be permanent EPA or SPA full-time non-teaching
employees with two or more consecutive years of FSU service. Any person
receiving a promotion to a non-qualifying position after being nominated is
eligible for consideration.
Ineligible Employees
Employees in the following positions are ineligible: EPA
Special or Executive Assistants, Associate and Assistant Vice Chancellors,
Deans, Legal Counsel, or any of the Senior Level Administrators and part-time
employees.
The Employee of the Year winner is not eligible for nomination
for five (5) years from the last winning date retroactive to 1996. Award winners
are not eligible for nomination for two (2) years from the last winning date.
Employees serving on the Awards Committee are also ineligible.
Nomination Rules
- The description of why the person is being nominated must
be typed on the appropriate nomination form. The services and performance
must be so outstanding that special recognition is justified.
- All nomination forms must be typed
at least 10 points or large enough for easy reading.
- ALL information on the nomination form
must be complete.
- In addition to the nomination form, only ONE (1)
PAGE (front and back) will be accepted for supporting
documentation. Any additional information will not be accepted.
- All categories should be selected on each nomination form
(categories are listed in the Criteria section of this document.) Submit
specific examples and any supporting documentation along with the nomination
form.
- The NOMINATOR - must be a current permanent full-time FSU
employee with two (2) or more years of permanent service with FSU.
- All nominations must be submitted to the University Post
Office - Staff Employee of the Year Awards Committee Chair, Post Office Box
14205-FSU, no later than Friday, November 7th, 2003.
Services To The University
The nominee must have provided services to the University that
are clearly outstanding when compared to other employees doing the same type
job. Include thoughts on any of the following areas: individual
or team accomplishment; money-saving suggestions; extra effort; regular
attendance; reliability; devotion to duty; achieving/maintaining work safety
goals; flexibility in changing workplace; creativity and innovation; skills
improvement; participation on committees and working with university sponsored
programs or other university departments in realizing their program goals.
Sustained Performance Excellence
Performance that is consistently above outstanding and
deserving recognition in this manner.
Professionalism
The manner in which the employee handles stressful situations;
relates to others; provides service; helps others; communicates with students,
co-workers and the public; adapts to changing technologies and people; and their
knowledge of departmental or unit and university policies and procedures.
Community Service
Nominee's involvement in activities outside the university
that have direct positive impact on the community. Has made outstanding
contributions to the public through community involvement or volunteerism.
Other
Other significant achievements for services that deserve
recognition.
Awards will be given to seven winners. One of the seven
nominees with the highest overall rating will be selected as the Employee of the
Year.

Individual departments may choose to have their own awards
program in addition to the University Awards Program. They should be developed
and designed to recognize accomplishments of employees and their contributions
to the mission of the work unit, university and community. Programs developed
should be submitted to the Office of Human Resources for review and recognition.
