Commuting Students Welcome To Fayetteville State University!  It may be surprising to know that the majority of students attending Fayetteville State University are commuting students!  As a commuter, you may not be able to spend as much time on campus as other students.  However, you are still a very important part of the student body!  You need to be informed of several concerns involving both transportation and campus.

TO COMMUTING STUDENTS

As a commuter student, many services are provided for you.   Since you may not be able to return home between classes, inquire about lounges, study carrels, and lockers for your books and supplies (Lockers are found downstairs in the Rudolph Jones Student Center’s Game room and in the entrance to the University Book Store).  Become familiar with the places to eat on campus (the cafeteria is located in the Rudolph Jones Student Center).

A student ID is one of the most important items to have on campus!!!!!

Don’t think that just because you don’t live on campus, you don’t need a student ID!  Student IDs are used not only as identification, but also as a library card, for meal plan verification, and discounts at student events.  Fayetteville State University will process student IDs during the beginning of the term and replace them if they are lost for a small fee.    Remember, Don’t leave home without your Student Identification card!!!!!!

COMMUTING CONSIDERATIONS!!!!!!!

Before the semester begins, map out where your classes will be held, how long it will take you to arrive, and what parking lots are available.  A few weeks before classes begin, take test-runs at different times of the day to see how long your transportation time will be.  However, you should be aware that traffic will increase after classes begin.

Research your commuting options!

These include:
Bus
(call FAST - Fayetteville Area Transit System for bus schedule 433-1747)

Car pool or ride share

Driving your own vehicle

Seek out the transportation solutions that appeals to you the most (i.e. the least expensive, closest to your home, fastest travel time).

  COMMUTERS WHO HAVE AUTOMOBILES!

If you are driving, it is important to know general automobile maintenance and safety considerations.

Lock doors

Park in well-lit areas

Keep valuables locked in the trunk

Never pick up hitchhikers

Know local weather and how to
handle severe weather
                        conditions

Check tires, oil, water, and lights regularly

Have tune ups as required by your car manual

Sign up with an auto club

If you think you are being followed, drive to the nearest police station or in front of a  convenience store.

Keep emergency items in your car including flashlight and jumper cables

Drive Safely!

  CAMPUS PARKING

Parking on campus can be limited.  Sign up early or share driving responsibilities with other students (Rides share/carpool).  It is not advisable to park in campus parking lots without having a parking permit, however tempting it may be.  Parking permits usually come in the form of a cardboard hanger.  Without this permit, you risk the danger of being given a citation or even having your automobile towed.  For more information on parking contact Campus Police/ Public Safety  at 672-1341 or visit their website www.uncfsu.edu/police/.
