PURPOSE. Provide information to potential applicants for the Master in Social Work (MSW) Program at the Army Medical Department Center & School (AMEDDC&S).
COURSE OVERVIEW. The Army-Fayetteville State University (FSU) MSW Program is a 9 to 14 months accelerated academic program that is followed by a 24-month post-graduate internship.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS. This program is open to commissioned officers from all branches of service within the US Army. Army competitive officers must contact their current branch assignment officer to obtain a conditional letter of release for a branch transfer and to obtain information on the current policy on stop loss/stop move. Officers at the rank of Captain must have completed a Captains Career Course prior to the start of the MSW Program.

APPLICATION PROCESS. Applicants interested in attending the Army MSW Program should consult the current military personnel (MILPER) message that has been approved by the USAREC. In accordance with the MILPER message, applicants must contact their local AMEDD recruiter to begin the application process. The AMEDD recruiter must forward a complete application packet to the AMEDDC&S MSW Program in accordance with the instructions from the US Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) approved MILPER message. The recruiter will also submit a complete accession application packet to the USAREC Headquarters for the February Accession Board, prior to the published deadline. The USAREC Board will only review applicants who have been academically approved by the AMEDDC&S MSW Program. Next, the USAREC Selection Board will provide the AMEDDC&S MSW Program a list of board approved applicants for admission to the Army-FSU MSW Program. The AMEDDC&S MSW Program will then forward original academic applications of board approved applicants to FSU for final approval by the university. Once applicants receive their letters of acceptance, they will be scheduled to attend the MSC Captains Career Course, if applicable, prior to attending the MSW Program.
APPLICATION PACKETS. Competitive application packets must include official undergraduate transcripts that reflect an overall grade point average of 3.0 or greater; Graduate Record Examination scores of 850 or greater that are not older than five years at the start date of the program for those personnel who took the GRE prior to 1 August 2011 and 290 for all other applicants); three (3) letters of recommendation and FSU Recommendation forms from professionals who can attest to the student’s capabilities for performing in a graduate level program; a personal statement of no more than five (5) typed, double-spaced pages addressing the student’s interest in pursuing a career in military social work, a description of past paid or voluntary social work related experience, future career plans, past social work related community involvement, and a description of the student’s personal qualities that are consistent with becoming a military social worker; and a completed Fayetteville State University Graduate School Application for Admission.
