Lieutenant Colonel Steve Lewis has served as an Army Social Worker for over 17 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nevada, Reno; the Master of Social Work degree from California State University, Sacramento; and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Social Work from Florida State University. He currently serves as the Chief, Soldier Behavioral Health Division and Chief of the US Army-Fayetteville State University Master of Social Work program. Previous assignments include Behavioral Sciences Staff Officer, 44th MEDCOM; Chief, Division Mental Health, 82d Airborne Division; 68X Instructor, AMEDDC&S; Commander 254th MED DET (CSC); and Chief, Community Mental Health Services, Martin Army Community Hospital. He has served on several operational deployments to include OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, and OPERATION JOINT ENDEAVOR. LTC Lewis has published on topics surrounding psychological debriefing, military deployment and mental illness views and attributes. LTC Lewis research interests include treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Stigma of Mental Illness, Organizational culture and Combat and Operational Stress Control.
