Biography

Dr. Causby is an associate professor at Fayetteville State University. She earned a doctorate at Florida State University in 1984. Her dissertation research focused on bonding issues for parents of handicapped infants. In addition, Dr. Causby received her Master of Social Work at Florida State. Her master’s thesis provided an evaluation of an adolescent parenting program in Leon County, Florida. Undergraduate work of a BSW was completed in 1975 at East Carolina University.
Dr. Causby has more than 25 years of social work teaching experience. At East Carolina University she served as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, Lead Professor for the Family and Child Track of the MSW Program and Field Director. Dr. Causby has further teaching experience at Florida State University, University of North Carolina at Wilmington and at Cumberland College.
Professional international activities include a number of presentations and training sessions. Dr. Causby was asked to participate in a forum at the University of Oxford, Oxford, England regarding family and women’s issues. She has also participated in the regional planning for children and families in the eastern Caribbean. These sessions held in Barbados were the foundation for empowering families in a five year plan with the focus on a family/client centered approach to practice. Much of Dr. Causby’s commitment to social justice has been operational zed in work in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Results of these efforts include numerous training sessions as well as parenting group education and a focus on sexual abuse and domestic violence. She has aided TCI in responding to the Rights of the Child mandates.
Dr. Causby’s professional affiliations include NASW and CSWE. As an active member with CSWE she served on the Commission for the Role and Status of Women. She has also served as a consultant on the NC Department of Human Resources for Family Preservation as well as a Kellogg Foundation Health Project Advisory Board.
Her practice background includes the populations of developmental disabilities, children in residential care, adolescent parents and families with young children in the mental health system. Research interests have focused on diversity issues and practice modalities. These include publications regarding women’s issues, gay and lesbian family dynamics, family preservation and social advocacy.
