These sculptural forms explore planes and forms using different media in three-dimensional space. Each work had to reach a minimum of 6 feet in height or width, additionally resources available, withstand outdoor conditions, and be installed as part of a class exhibit for three weeks. 
Student investigation began by researching the work of specific master artists: Alexander Calder, Giacometti,, Judy Pfaff, Keith Haring, Jackson Pollock.

The Students

This research became the catalyst for a new work by the student. Stage two of the process continued with an initial sketch of three possible variations of form from which one was selected. The final sketch took the form of a small 6”inch prototype using paper, poster board or foam core. The small versions were reworked to consider the best variation of light, relationship of form to form, space and variant of rhythm, etc.

This represents the “rough” conceptual stage, followed by execution of the work to full scale. The sculptural medium inherently requires students to adapt to an atmosphere of cooperation, skill building/sharing and team work. The variety of mediums on display demonstrate not only resourcefulness and creative approaches to problem solving. I would like to congratulate my students…for their determination to succeed and their creative potential.
