Membership & Structure

The Board of Visitors members shall be selected from a local, regional, and national perspective based on the following criteria:

  • Their knowledge and experiences in specific academic fields or with broad expertise.
  • Willingness to give time and commitment to Fayetteville State University.


Members shall be selected for the Board of Visitors by the Chancellor.

  • Nominations to the Board of Visitors may be made by the members of the Board of Visitors, members of the Board of Trustees, Leadership or Deans of the major academic units of the university, and the Chancellor
  • There shall be a maximum of 75 members of the Board. 


The terms of Board members shall be designated as follows:

  • No Board member shall serve more than 2 consecutive terms.
  • Any person who has served two (2) full terms in succession, may after a break in service of one year or longer be eligible for another term appointment.
  • All terms begin on July 1 and end on June 30.
  • Any vacancy in the board shall be filled for the balance of the unexpired term by the Chancellor.
