Birth through Kindergarten Non-Teaching Online (BS)
Our program prepares students to effectively work with children ages birth through five in early learning environments that do not require a North Carolina Teaching License (i.e., nursery schools, preschools, private households, kindergarten, and before-and-after school programs). The program is designed for persons who desire to foster and enhance children's developmental and socialization skills. Admission requirements include a minimum GPA of 2.70 and an AA degree in early childhood.
Why Choose Birth-to Kindergarten Non-Teaching Degree?
If you enjoy working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers then this degree is for you! The program was approved by UNC System Office as a totally online program in 2015, which makes it suitable for non-traditional students who may work full-time. The increase in the number of childcare facilities ensures the increase in the number of childcare jobs. In addition, the public's increased understanding of the importance of early education will cause additional children to be enrolled in preschool and daycare centers.
The Birth through Kindergarten teaching and non-teaching programs in the Department of Elementary Education earned national accreditation in 2018 from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Higher Education Accreditation Commission.
