Dr. Melissa Haithcox-Dennis

Associate Professor

Melissa Haithcox-Dennis, "Dr. H-D" has over 25 years of experience working to better the lives of others. Whether in the classroom, on campus, or in the community, she always greets others with a smile and seeks to lift them up. Having served in both urban and rural environments, Dr. H-D has more than 20 years of college-level, public health teaching and extensive experience working with community health coalitions and non-profit organizations. Areas of expertise include HIV Prevention, Coalition and Community Organizing, Program Planning and Evaluation, and Technology.

She earned her B.S. in Biology from North Carolina Central University, a M.A. in Health Education from Montclair State University and a Ph.D. in Health Education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She is also a Master Certified Health Education Specialist.

Research Interests

Dr. Haithcox-Dennis’ research focuses on improving rural communities’ health, HIV/AIDS, social support, and community organizing. Her secondary research interests include undergraduate professional preparation and incorporating technology into public health practice.
