LEAP Peer Mentors - Application CLOSED

LEAP Peer Mentors assist students with their transition to college.  Each community is assigned peer mentors who act as Resident Assistants in the dormitories, troubleshoot difficulties students may be experiencing during their transition, and assist staff with weekend and evening programming.  Peer mentors are one of the most important factors in our success.  LEAP Peer Mentors are the bridge between the students and staff; they are the eyes and ears of the program.  Mentors are involved with the students' lives in a way that faculty and staff could not be, which allows them to anticipate and address any difficulties students may experience at any level: interpersonal, academic, or financial.

Job Description:

Peer Mentors work to support LEAP scholars in their transition to college life through academic success, mentoring, engaging students in campus life, and supporting the overall mission of the LEAP Program. Prior to the start of the program, mentors will assist with recruitment and support efforts by making phone calls to prospective students, visiting (virtually) various schools, and making presentations about the LEAP program, among other duties. This on-campus, live-in position will require major time commitments during the day, evenings, and weekends throughout the duration of the program. Peer Mentors will monitor daily activities, conduct room checks nightly, participate in weekly trainings, and other duties as assigned by the LEAP Leadership team. Mentors will also be responsible for planning and facilitating programs, holding peer mentoring sessions, and monitoring study sessions during the entire first year for the 2021 LEAP cohort.

** LEAP mentors MUST stay on campus. LEAP mentors ARE NOT ALLOWED to work outside jobs during the duration of the summer bridge program. **

Qualifications:

• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

• Strong academic record (minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at time of submission)

• Creativity and flexibility

• Ability to work effectively with a team and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and scholars

• BRONCO PRIDE!

* Special consideration will be given to previous summer bridge mentors and participants who have demonstrated EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP QUALITIES
