Greetings from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences Website! We hope that excellence in academics, research, and service in the Department is what you are looking for.

Our faculty members provide high quality instruction in all courses offered in our programs: BS in Biology, BS in Biology - Secondary Education, BS in Biology - Medical Technology, BS in Forensic Biology, BS in Forensics Chemistry, BS in Biotechnology, and MS in Biology. In addition, our faculty members provide distinguished service in many professional societies and entities (American Academy of Forensic Science, American Association of Plant Biologists, Association of Southeastern Biologists, NC Academy of Science, etc.), attend, and present in prestigious national and international meetings.

We take pride in training our undergraduate and graduate students in research projects spanning various disciplines under biological sciences such as microbiology, genetics, genomics, forensic sciences, and biotechnology. Over a dozen of graduate students (MS in Biology) are currently offered outstanding training in the Department and several of them published high quality papers in well respected scientific journals.

The Department has three Core Labs with state-of-the art equipment such as the LI-COR 4300 DNA Analyzer, the ABI 310 and 3130 Genetic Analyzers, HPLC System, GC System, etc. used by faculty, undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department currently has 26 employees including faculty, staff, and lab technicians. In spring 2013, the new Science & Technology Building will open its doors. The S&T Building will host our Forensic Science program in addition to the departments of 'Chemistry & Physics' and 'Math & Computer Sciences'.

We encourage you to navigate through our website and make yourself familiar with our faculty research expertise areas. Also, please stop by the Department's office if you have any questions.
