Textbook Adoption Policy

BooksThe policy statement below was established by Fayetteville State University to clearly define the responsibility of individual Faculty members, Department Chairpersons, Program Directors, Academic Deans, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Bookstore personnel for timely identification and ordering of textbooks, course packs and other instructional materials needed in support of the academic programs and operations of the University.


Policy Statement:

Bookstore personnel will provide each Faculty Member, Department Chairperson and Dean, Textbook Request Forms (notices) for each course offered at least twenty-one (21) days prior to the established deadlines indicated below. Faculty members, Department Chairpersons, Program Directors and Academic Deans, must submit Textbook Requests forms and course pack materials to Bookstore personnel each calendar year according to the following dates:

  • Fall Semester - April 15th
  • Spring Semester - October 15th
  • Summer Session I - March 15
  • Summer Session II - March 15

BooksAfter cut-off dates have been reached, the Textbook Manager will provide the Director of Business Services for Fayetteville State University, weekly reports detailing by department, the total number of courses offered vs the total number of orders received. Once reviewed, the Director of Business Services will forward to the Departmental Chairperson’s, who are responsible for communicating with Faculty Members to ensure remaining textbook orders are forwarded to the Textbook Manager within five (5) working days.

If no responses have been received within this time period, an additional listing is forwarded to the Departmental Deans for action. If no responses are received within an additional five (5) working days, the listing is forwarded to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for resolution.

Courses where no Textbooks are required should be so designated on a Textbook Request Form. Once Textbook Request forms have been submitted to the Bookstore for Textbook Adoption, any changes to Textbook titles other than for new editions or discontinued titles, will only be granted with the written approval from the Departmental Dean. Bookstore Personnel will be responsible for ordering all Textbooks and Custom Course Pack Materials
