Community & Government Relations

For over 130 years, Fayetteville State University has offered educational opportunities to underserved populations and served as an engaged stakeholder in the southeastern region of North Carolina.

The institution has been a leader in training educational administrators and teachers that have served the state of North Carolina and throughout the United States. Our alumni provide public service to this community as elected officials, doctors, lawyers, non-profit leaders, and business industry leaders. Maintaining this legacy requires a mix of resources that includes support from the state and the federal government and its agencies.

The Office of Community and Government Relations acts as an advocate for the university of the federal, state, and local levels. This includes monitoring legislation related to higher education, working with legislators and their staff to influence public policy and helping to increase awareness of the university's educational and research programs. The office serves as the principle liaison and the point of contact between the university and all levels of government.

We regularly take faculty members to Washington, D.C. and Raleigh, NC., to brief elected leaders on a variety of issues, and we lend guidance and advice to student groups interested in interacting with the university's policy leaders.

About Us

The Office of Government and Community Affairs serves as the primary liaison between the University and the communities in which it resides on a wide variety of local and regional issues.

Fayetteville State University is committed to working with the community on all levels to address issues of concern- especially those that are related to our 2015-2020 Strategic Plan. The strategic areas include becoming a leader in the economic transformation of the southeastern region of North Carolina by conducting needs assessment, researching trends, increasing military outreach, establishing community partnerships, and serving as an information resource; becoming as intellectual and cultural center for Cumberland County and the southeastern region of North Carolina by sustaining a climate of excellence through the utilization of best practices in the performing and fine arts; and increasing access to education, research, scholarship, and service in North Carolina through expanded partnerships and collaborative efforts with governmental and non-governmental organizations and agencies.

Sponsorships

Sponsorships are used to maintain and enhance the University corporate image and identify its role as a good corporate citizen. Limited funds are made available annually for this purpose.

The university receives many request for sponsorship, support, prizes, and assistance from a wide variety of organizations, schools, community groups, and individuals. While we would like to help everyone, we are unable to proceed with request that do not fit within our sponsorship objectives. In addition, budgetary constraints can limit our involvement with sponsorships.

While we are always open to requests for sponsorship, please bear in mind that we may not always be able to help.

Proposals that are clear, concise and well researched make it easier to consider our proposal.

The University will evaluate all sponsorship proposals on a case-by-case taking into consideration the following criteria:

  1. Alignment with the university's values and our community focus. (This information can be found in the University Strategic Plan)
  2. Demonstrate tangible benefits to the University and the Community.
  3. The University's existing partnership commitments.
  4. Achieving balance and variety in the types of sponsorship applications we approve.
  5. Available budget and financial allocation.

+Campus Military Task Force

The Campus Military Task Force will work to address current and future issues affecting the admission, continuing enrollment, progress toward a degree, and quality of the university experience for FSU students who are active duty members of the military, military veterans and military spouses. The Military Task Force will be comprised of FSU faculty and staff in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the professional schools and will include representatives from the offices of Admissions, the Registrar, Financial Aid and Veteran Services, Auxiliary Services, Career Services, and Student Affairs. The Military Task Force will report to and respond to guidance from the Office of the Chancellor.
