One way to make yourself more available to students is to set up your office hours and profile. If you have not already set up your office hours in BroncoConnect, the Office Hour Setup Wizard is the first thing you see when you enter BroncoConnect. You can add an initial set from the Wizard and add more blocks later, if you have hours that do not fit neatly into a single MWF or TR pattern.
Be sure to select the appointment types Advising and/or Teaching as appropriate. That will allow students to indicate why they want to see you. You can also add multiple locations, including Phone and Online, if you want students to be able to phone in or chat (handy for online students).
When you enter office hours in BroncoConnect, an e-mail meeting invitation is sent to your Outlook calendar. That will allow you to add the hours to your Outlook Calendar and avoid double-booking.
Once you have set up office hours, your students and advisees will be able to make appointments with you online using BroncoConnect. They can request a date/time, which goes as a meeting invitation to you in Outlook. You can accept or decline the invitation, and an e-mail goes back to the student with that information.
You can also initiate meetings in BroncoConnect for your students. Go to Appointments, select an office hour day/time, and click Add. Select a student, add some comments, and send the meeting invitation. The advantage of initiating meetings from BroncoConnect is that the meeting becomes part of the teaching/advising record for the student. That information may be available to other instructors and advisors, based on their permissions.
Complete the rest of your profile to let students know a little bit about you. You can control how much or how little you include. You can also adjust how BroncoConnect notifications are sent. On the Email Notifications tab, you can elect to have summary notifications sent daily or weekly. You can also choose to have email notifications sent immediately whenever a tracking item (flag, kudos, etc.) is created.
