Fayetteville State University Title IX Policies and Procedures

The University is committed to providing a learning, working and living environment that promotes personal integrity, civility and mutual respect in an environment free of sex discrimination and harassment. Title IX of the Educational Amendment Act of 1972 states that: No person in the United States, shall on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal assistance. Sex discrimination violates an individual's fundamental rights and personal dignity.

Fayetteville State University considers sex and gender-based discrimination to be a serious offense. These policies include all forms of sex and gender-based discrimination, including: sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, relationship misconduct, and retaliation, by employees, students, or third parties. The policies have been developed to reaffirm individual rights and responsibilities and to provide recourse for those individuals whose rights have been violated. Fayetteville State University has several policies prohibiting sexual harassment and related misconduct in our campus community.

Prohibited conduct, as defined by these policies, comprises a broad range of behavior that will not be tolerated in the University community including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.  

The links below provide students, staff,  faculty, and visitors information on reporting options, and investigation process for complaints alleging that the behavior of a FSU student, employee, or third-party may have violated University policies. When conduct referenced in a Title IX complaint involves a FSU student, staff, faculty member, and some third-parties, the University will utilize the policies and procedures listed below for resolving the allegations and/or violations. Complaints may be resolved through the University Policies and Procedures in place on date they occurred, not on the date they were reported to the University. Parties will be notified of the Policies and Procedures that will be used to resolve their complaint, in writing, by the Title IX Office. For additional information about our policies and processes related to every form of sex/gender-based harassment and discrimination, please feel free to contact the Title IX Office, the Counseling and Personal Development Center*, Victim Assistance Program, Student Health Services, Employee Assistance Program, the Office of Student Conduct, or Police and Public Safety (Confidential Resources *).

Confidential Resources provide a free, confidential place for students to seek support, information, and assistance if they have experienced an incident of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and other forms of prohibited sexual conduct. Employees should contact the Employee Assistance Program to receive similar support. Any disclosure of an incident while seeking confidential services will not constitute a report to the University and the University will not investigate or respond.
