McNair Scholar

Dean Lewis“My journey towards the earned doctorate began with my application to and admission in the McNair program. The McNair Program provided me with the opportunity to interact with other honors scholars. The McNair program provided me with the opportunity to visit institutions of higher education to help me identify a university that will be a “good fit” as I pursue the Master’s degree. Through the McNair Program I had access to faculty mentors, on whom I could call to provide assistance with my academic endeavors. My mentors guided me through two McNair sponsored summer research projects, which started my passion for research and opened doors that led to regional and national presentations! I participated in workshops, in professional discussions, and was invited on several occasions to work with new McNair Scholars! If it were not for my participation in the McNair Program, I would not have earned a terminal degree. Prior to my involvement with McNair I had not given any consideration to earning an advanced degree. I am forever committed to giving back because of how much the McNair Program gave to me! I am so proud to be a McNair Scholar! “
