5th Annual Boots to Suits Conference and Job Fair
5th Annual Boots to Suits Conference and Job Fair was held in partnership with NCOA, Military.com and Monster.com on August 14-15, 2017 at Iron Mike Conference Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It was a great opportunity for businesses to tap into an endless supply of military talent and hire our nation's heroes! Remakable occasion to connect, recruit and grow with military talent!
The event was FREE and a wonderful opportunity for transitioning Service members, Veterans, and their families to interact with the employers to highlight their skills and talents. Please click on the folowing links for more information:
"The Boots to Suits conference not only provided an opportunity for Food Lion to connect to a strong Veteran workforce, it brought multiple topics ofintersectional learning to our Diversity & Inclusion and Talent Acquisition teams. Through the workshops and materials provided we have a strongerunderstanding of how the experiences that women, different generations, and other veterans can bring a variety of unique skills into the workplace. Those learnings, along with the career fair the following day, made the Boots to Suits an exceptional event for our Food Lion team."
Diana Roberge, Talent Acquisition Sourcer, Delhaize America
"Day 1 (Educational and Networking Event) for me was another great education in to the world of the military from this non-military HR managerwho, the more I learn, appreciates the many positive attributes, skills, and work ethic military personnel can bring to our organizations. Day 2 (JobFair) brought a surprising number of diverse candidates. I was happy to see different years of experiences, education levels, and a range of yearsof service. Granted, many thought Appalachian State was a little far away from where they would like to end up, but we are hopeful that it openedtheir eyes to ASU's presence and to the fact that we really appreciate hiring military personnel."
Becky Gosky, Employment Specialist | Office of Human Resources, Appalachian State University
The mission of the conference is to provide
1) hiring managers and human resources professionals with the strategies of recruiting today's competitive military talent, discuss the value of employing veterans and their spouses, and encourage them to adopt military friendly hiring practices, and
2) our veterans the opportunities for successful lives through a 'job and career fair' where we give employers the chance to find out the unique skills and value our veterans add to a workplace as well as give our veterans the chance to interact with employers and highlight their skills and talents.
