Dr. Lenora M. Hayes

Assistant Professor

Dr. Lenora Hayes is an Associate Professor of Spanish. As an undergraduate student, she became the President of the Student Association of the School of English at the Universidad de Panamá sede Veraguas. Dr. Hayes graduated Sigma Lambda from the University of Panama in 2000 with a degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. In 2001, she was awarded a teaching assistantship in the Department of Romance Language at the University of Georgia which enabled her to pursue a Masters of Arts in Teaching Spanish. In 2003, she began teaching Spanish as an instructor at the University of South Carolina and within a year she became the coordinator for the intermediate level Spanish Language Courses. Dr. Hayes also taught courses in Spanish language and Culture at institutions such as Midlands Technical College, Benedict College and Columbia College in Columbia, SC. She also taught high school Spanish for three years. In 2013, after receiving her Doctorate in Education from the University of South Carolina, she joined the Department of World Languages and Cultures at Fayetteville State University teaching upper and lower division Spanish courses. She became Assistant Chair of the department in 2014 and served in this position for three years. In 2017 she was awarded the distinction of Department of Communication, Languages and Cultures Teacher of the Year. Today she continues to share her love of the Spanish language and culture with her students and colleagues.
