Mission

The School of Social Work at Fayetteville State University (FSU) prepares competent social work professionals at undergraduate and graduate levels, promotes lifelong learning, and enhances the well-being of individuals, children, and families residing in rural, urban, and military communities throughout North Carolina, and globally.

Program Goals

1. Prepare students for advanced social work practice, research, and leadership by concentrating in children and family services or in mental health and substance abuse services.

2. Equip social work students with the knowledge, skills, and values to respond to the needs of oppressed and at-risk populations in a multicultural society.

3. Cultivate students’ pursuit of lifelong learning by emphasizing participation in professional development, involvement in professional and community organizations.

Program Offerings

The School of Social Work provides bachelor's and master's degree programs. The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree prepares students for entry-level generalist social work practice, whereas the Master of Social Work (MSW) program develops advanced practice competencies, notably for clinical or leadership positions. Professional certification is also available through our graduate-level certificate programs.

The School of Social Work offers an accredited Council on Social Work Education bachelor’s and master’s programs designed to prepare professional social work leaders, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers engaging at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. Both programs infuse ethical and evidence-based practice to promote social and economic justice.
