Admission Criteria
Application for formal admission to the Bachelor of Social Work program begins after the completion of 63 semester hours (end of sophomore year) of core curriculum coursework. Students with less than 63 hours are considered Pre-Social Work majors and must complete a Pre-Social Work application.
Application Requirements
- Completion of a School of Social Work Undergraduate Admission Application
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- Forms must be completed by someone other than a friend or family member.
- A minimum of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
- If the grade point average is below 2.5, the student may be a Pre-Major.
- A grade of "C" or better in all courses.
- Personal Statement
- A 2-3 page, typed narrative on "Why I Want to Become a Social Worker.“
- Assessment of Good Ethical Character
- Student signs a code of ethical behavior statement.
- Student is in good academic and nonacademic standing within the university.
- Student aligns with the Social Work Values and Ethics as determined by their application, personal statement, or interview.
Application Deadlines
- April 15th ~ application deadline for students completing their requirements in the spring semester
- June 15th ~ application deadline for students completing their requirements in the summer I session
- July 15th ~ application deadline for students completing their requirements in the summer II session
- November 15th ~ application deadline for students completing their requirements in the fall semester
CREDIT FOR WORK AND LIFE EXPERIENCE
The BSW Program will not grant academic or other credit for life or work experience. Only students admitted to the BSW program may take social work courses in the professional sequence. Also, only those students who have been admitted to the program and who have completed all required prerequisite course work may enroll in practice and methods courses, and in the Practicum instruction courses.
