Chynna Hunt, newly announced FSU Volleyball Coach

Fayetteville, NC (January 31) – Fayetteville State University Director of Athletics Anthony Bennett has announced that Broncos volleyball alum Chynna Hunt will be the next head coach of the volleyball program. Hunt becomes the eighth head coach in the program's 44-year history.

"It is truly an honor to be back at my alma mater, Fayetteville State University," adds Head Coach Chynna Hunt. "Stepping onto this campus for the first time as a recruit, I instantly felt a sense of home and belonging. The warmth and support from Bronco Nation have always been extraordinary, shaping my unforgettable experiences and fostering a strong connection with this institution."

Hunt was a two-sport student-athlete for the Broncos from 2016 through 2019 where she was a standout on the volleyball squad and a season on the tennis team. As an outside hitter/utility player, Hunt has been honored on the 2018 All-CIAA and All-Tournament Team. The 2019 Preseason and All-CIAA performer helped lead the Broncos to their sixth Conference Championship title. She was also a member of the 2016 CIAA Runner-up Broncos in her freshman season.

Also, while a Bronco, she was a member of the 2018 tennis squad.

"We are thrilled to welcome Chynna Hunt back home as our new volleyball head coach," said Director of Athletics Anthony Bennett. "Her unwavering passion for the sport and a shared vision of the winning culture we aim to develop at Fayetteville State makes her the perfect leader to inspire and elevate our student-athletes to new heights on and off the court."

Immediately after graduation, Chynna Hunt coached 14s at Sandhills Volleyball Club in Fayetteville for a year where her experience became the foundation of her drive for coaching. She then moved back to South Carolina and coached the Grand Strand Juniors 14s in Myrtle Beach for two years, which included developing them into a 2022 USA National Qualifier contender after winning titles for the High Tide Open Division, South Carolina Grand Prix Tournament, and Winter Bump Open Division. The 2023 squad captured the Winter Bump Open, President's Day Open, Big South Qualifier 3rd-Place Gold Finisher, and Shamrock Gold Division Championship titles.

Hunt was named the head varsity volleyball coach at Myrtle Beach High School (SC) in July of 2022 while continuing to coach the travel squad in the off-season. The high schoolers became conference runners-up in 2022 and 2023 as well as advancing to the second round of the playoffs both seasons. The 2023 team also earned the Highest GPA Award.

"I am filled with anticipation as I return," added Hunt. "I am eager to explore the exciting opportunities that lie ahead and continue building upon the remarkable legacy of Fayetteville State University. Here's to embracing new connections and creating lasting memories beyond the volleyball court."

A native of Summerville, SC, Chynna Hunt played volleyball and basketball at Ashely Ridge High School, where she earned All-Region and All-State honors. Hunt is in the final stages of earning a master's degree in mass communications at Coastal Carolina.
