What types of accommodations might I receive?

Accommodations vary depending on individual needs but may include extended test time exam/quizzes, reduced distractive testing, assistive technology, note taking support, preferred seating, food/water/medicine in classroom, breaks during class, etc. Based on severity of need, impact to daily living reading, walking, eating, functional limitations to include severity, frequency of symptoms, duration of symptoms, etc.

How long does the review process take?

Review times vary depending on the volume of requests, complexity and sufficiency of the documentation, if further contact or collaboration is needed with students Provider (upon student consent), etc. Typically, the process takes up to 10 business days (excluding weekends and holidays).

Do I need to reapply each semester?

Usually, accommodations remain in effect as long as you are enrolled. However, you may be asked to provide updated documentation or confirm continued need. Send an email to SDS - disabilityservcies@uncfsu.edu - if you ever decide not to enroll for any given semester. Your record will be properly archived until your next active registration.

Are high school 504/IEPs or MyChart screenshots accepted?

These records are accepted for historical reference only. They do not meet the University’s Documentation Guidelines for a thorough eligibility determination.

When do accommodations begin?

Approved accommodations start on the date your approval is processed, as indicated on your Accommodation Letter and official notification email. Accommodations are not backdated.

How will professors receive my accommodations?

Once approved, both you and your Professor will receive a notification letter, and it is your responsibility to coordinate with your instructors as needed. Additionally, you Professors have access your approved accommodations via the Faculty AIMs Portal.

What is the Preparation Stage?

The Preparation Stage is the most important state. It is considered a self-assessment step that helps you determine if accommodations are appropriate and prepares you to submit complete documentation. Completing this stage carefully helps prevent delays and ensures your request meets the University’s guidelines.
