Richard Kingsberry, Class of 1978, Establishes Legacy of Stewardship

Fayetteville State University is proud to recognize Richard Kingsberry, class of 1978, for his lasting dedication. As a member of the FSU Foundation Board and former president of the National Alumni Association, Kingsberry recently made a generous investment in the university with a charitable gift annuity.
This spirit of giving stems from Kingsberry’s personal journey. His life and service stem from a deep sense of gratitude. He credits his parents for their love, guidance, support, and belief in him. He also says the lessons, education, mentorship, and friendships at Fayetteville State University shaped who he is today.
Education and Leadership
Kingsberry credits Fayetteville State University as the foundation of his leadership journey. The education he received prepared him for his career and equipped him to lead, serve, mentor, and support others. These experiences helped him grow both professionally and within his community.
“Donating back is both a privilege and a responsibility,” Kingsberry said. “It ensures future generations receive the same opportunity to rise.”
His words reflect the heart of the Bronco spirit, which is defined by pride, shared purpose, individual excellence, and community strength. Throughout his life, he has relied on faith as his guiding anchor. He views this contribution as an act of stewardship guided by the truth of "Res Non Verba," or Deeds Not Words.
Honoring the Past and Empowering the Future
Kingsberry made this gift as an expression of gratitude for a university that shaped his mind, affirmed his worth, provided opportunity, and anchored his legacy. As an alumnus of this historically Black college and university, he gives in honor of those who supported him and in commitment to those who will follow. He encourages his fellow alumni to strive to do the same or even more.
Through this example, Kingsberry’s generosity will help change lives, just as his own life was changed years ago. This charitable gift annuity connects the past he values with the future he hopes for all Broncos.
The Impact of a Charitable Gift Annuity
By establishing a charitable gift annuity with the Fayetteville State University Foundation, Kingsberry has created a lasting gift that benefits both the donor and the university. This planned gift offers several benefits:
- Lifetime fixed income for the donor
- Significant tax advantages, including a charitable deduction
- A lasting legacy for future generations
- Meaningful support for university growth
For the university, these funds support scholarships, academic programs, faculty, and student projects. Kingsberry sees this gift as both a financial investment and a way to continue the stewardship values he learned early on.
Joining the Bronco Legacy Circle
In recognition of this vision, the university has welcomed Kingsberry as one of the newest members of the Bronco Legacy Circle. FSU established the group to express gratitude and highlight the long-term impact these commitments have on the campus.
