What We Offer
The MA Sociology Program is grounded in the asynchronous online model that allows flexibility for career professionals. It is a fully accredited, non-residential, non-thesis 30-credit hour program whereby students complete four core courses and six elective courses. Successful completion of coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for degree attainment. The program is housed in the Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Studies, an academic unit in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS).
We deliver robust instruction from professors who are committed to providing you with individualized attention. We offer advanced training in theory, research methodology, data analysis and social statistics. These courses provide a core foundation for work in various employment sectors and the pursuit of doctoral studies.
Faculty members represent a broad spectrum of teaching and research interests such as deviance and criminology, family, education, demography, health and medicine, work and the economy, social movements, global and transnational sociology, and political sociology.
Students have opportunities to engage in a supportive environment while fostering relationships in a digital community of sociological practice. Additionally, students have opportunities to participate in professional development activities.
What Will You Learn in Sociology?
- Understand current social issues and social problems in their cultural, historical, and socio-political contexts, and formulate potential solutions to them, drawing on relevant sociological literature.
- The application of various research methodologies and data analysis techniques in understanding social issues and the use of these skills outside of academic settings.
