Steps To Applying For On-Campus Housing
Housing Application Kick off for NEW First-Time Freshmen and Transfers:
The on-campus housing process has FOUR (4) steps for new students. Please note that all housing policies, rules, eligibility requirements, and financial obligations are fully detailed in the 2025–2026 Student Housing Agreement. This document serves as a quick guide only.
STEP 1 - Prerequisites
Start working on your prerequisites.
The prerequisite steps are to ensure your access credentials are working, and you have reviewed all the housing information and found the best community connection before locking in a room and roommate.
- Pay your $100 FSU Enrollment Fee
- Attend a Virtual Housing Information Session with members of our Housing & Residence Life team – sign up at Housing and Residence Life – FSU.
- Sign up for a Summer New Student Orientation Session: New Student Orientation.
- Begin submitting your required Student Health documents: Student Health Services.
- Test your FSU email and user password. These credentials are required to log into MyHousingPortal and complete the required Living in Community Canvas course.
STEP 2 - Housing Application & Course

- Pay your non-refundable housing application fee:
- $150 annual fee for fall/spring housing.

- Complete the required Living in Community Canvas Course.
- Our staff will review your records to confirm prerequisites are met.

- April 1 – May 31: Priority application period.
- June 1 – 30: Late/waitlist period.
STEP 3 - Room and/or Roommate Selection
- Occurs May 1 – 31 for priority applicants; June 1 – 30 for late/waitlist.
- You must complete Steps 1 & 2 before you can participate.
- Log into MyHousingPortal for room/roommate selection and meal plan confirmation.
- Room/roommate assignments are first come, first served.
- Special Interest Housing or Living Learning Community (LLC) placements may be made directly by advisors or Housing staff.
- If you do not select a room/roommate, our office will assign one. Assignment change requests are processed in July.
- First-time residential students are automatically enrolled in the All-Access meal plan.
STEP 4 - Preparing for Move-In
- After July 1, move-in instructions will be sent via your FSU email.
- Instructions include:
- Specific move-in date & residence hall assignment.
- Roommate details & introductions.

- List of items to bring and first-week expectations.
- Double-check your student account for accuracy before arrival.
