A Commitment to Service and Excellence
American Education Week provided students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to celebrate the teaching profession, engage in meaningful service, and reaffirm Fayetteville State University's mission to prepare effective educators and leaders who make a difference in their communities.
This year’s theme emphasized turning learning into action, engaging students through hands-on sessions, community outreach, and professional development opportunities throughout the week.
American Education Week Kickoff - COE Majors Sessions Day (Nov. 17)

Service Learning & Internship Session featuring COE graduate Ariauna Chandler, a U.S. Army veteran and Master of Social Work student dedicated to holistic student support and community engagement.
- Education & Ethics Session with Ruben Reyes, Associate Superintendent for Human Resources for Cumberland County Schools, who discussed ethical leadership, equity, and the human-centered responsibilities of educational leaders.
- Beginning Teacher Support Session presented by Ashley Peterson, Beginning Teacher Support Facilitator for Cumberland County Schools, highlighting mentorship, induction supports, and expectations for early-career educators.
Read-Aloud Day in Local Schools (Nov. 18)
COE faculty, staff, and students visited Margaret Willis Elementary, Westarea Elementary, and the FSU Early Learning Center to read aloud to young learners. This initiative strengthened school partnerships and supported early literacy development.
Vision Board Mixer & Campus Engagement Day (Nov. 19)
Students gathered in the Rudolph Jones Student Center for a Vision Board Party, creating visual goals for academic, professional, and personal success. The day also featured a recruitment and networking café, followed by students cheering on the FSU Women’s Basketball Team in Capel Arena.
C.I. Brown Lecture & COE Food Drive (Nov. 20–21)
