Fayetteville State University (FSU), a public comprehensive, historically Black university, offers robust and innovative degree programs rooted in the liberal arts tradition. The university advances knowledge through the integration of teaching, learning, research, and public service. What began in 1867 as a one-building school established by black community leaders to educate black children in Fayetteville, has grown into a campus of 156 acres serving over 7,000 students. FSU has many nationally ranked academic programs, including the school of nursing and online MBA. In addition to exceptional pre-professional programs, FSU has a proud tradition in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. FSU also touts phenomenal Army and Air Force ROTC programs that annually develop students into nationally ranked cadets, prepared to lead successfully in the US military. Since 1972, Fayetteville State University has been one of 17 institutions within the broader University of North Carolina System. This multi-campus university system is dedicated to serving the state of North Carolina and its people through world-class teaching, research and scholarship, and outreach and service. More than 239,000 students are enrolled in the UNC System’s 16 universities across the state and the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics.
Fayetteville is 50 miles away from Raleigh and less than 100 miles away from Wilmington and the Atlantic Ocean; FSU is within driving distance of many of the beaches, mountains, and cities in the coastal South, and the campus community participates in a wide range of cultural and recreational activities in the area. There are multiple events to choose from, including the mid-April Dogwood Festival and Parade, exhibits at the Museum of the Cape Fear, and Fayetteville State University Homecoming weekend.

Mandatory Retirement PlansThe University understands the importance of preparing for your financial future. To assist with the many unique future financial goals and needs of its employees, the University offers eligible employees a choice between two retirement programs, Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) or the University of North Carolina Optional Retirement Program (ORP). Enrollment in either of the provided valuable retirement plans is mandatory. Supplemental Retirement Programs The University of North Carolina (UNC) and the State of North Carolina sponsor various retirement programs to help ensure that you reach your retirement goals. You may enroll in a supplemental retirement program at any time in your career with the UNC System Office. |
