Student Engagement and Experiences

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and the Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) are comprehensive tools used by FSU to assess student engagement and experiences. Both surveys offer institutions a holistic view of student engagement, informing institutional policies, curriculum development, and student support initiatives.

  • NSSE: Targets undergraduate students to gauge their involvement in educational activities, such as interactions with faculty, academic challenges, and co-curricular experiences. It provides valuable insights into how students are engaging with their learning environment and identifies areas for improvement in institutional practices.
  • BCSSE: Specifically designed for incoming first-year students and transfer students, BCSSE focuses on their expectations, motivations, and preparedness for college. By understanding students' pre-college experiences and expectations, institutions can tailor support services and academic programs to better meet the needs of incoming students.
