Retention

Former students are individuals who meet one of these criteria: those previously enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at FSU who have been away for one or more full semesters; undergraduate students who were academically suspended or dismissed and wish to return; or FSU graduates seeking to take additional undergraduate courses. All must apply for re-admission. This page outlines the steps to return.

Returning to FSU

Are you a former student who would like to return?  Then follow the steps for returning to FSU.

If you have been away from FSU for one or more consecutive semesters (excluding summer), follow the Steps for Returning to FSU, and reapply for admission using our Broncoville Portal.

Steps to Return

If you are returning to FSU after being away for one or more semesters (summer not included) or are returning from Academic Suspension or Dismissal, you must reapply to FSU using our  Broncoville Portal. Follow the application deadlines when submitting your application. Note: there is a $50 non-refundable application fee, which is payable through a link on your Broncoville portal.

All students who attended another institution since being away from FSU must submit official transcripts from those institutions to Undergraduate Admissions. You can submit transcripts in two ways:

  • Submit a request to your previous institution for electronic copies to be sent to FSU
  • Mail documents directly to FSU’s Office of Registrar, 1200 Murchison Road, Lilly Building, Room 300, Fayetteville, NC 28301

If you would like to apply for financial aid, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid for financial aid consideration.

If you had financial aid before and were not in compliance with the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy, you will need to fill out a Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal.

You've Been Readmitted, What's Next?

Academic advising at FSU is through individual college and school. Before your first academic advising session, which students entering in Fall can expect beginning in April and students entering in Spring can expect beginning in November, you’ll be sent an email to your FSU Broncoville account with details about the process.

If you are not in Good Academic Standing (cumulative GPA below 2.0), your advising session will be with a retention specialist.

As part of your first advising session, you will receive a code that allows you to access course registration.

Final Steps Before Enrolling

The state of North Carolina mandates that all students who live on campus and/or take more than four credit hours of weekday, on-campus courses are required to submit immunization records to the university. You can submit records via the Student Patient Portal. Student Health Services also offers immunizations on-site. Immunization records are required by law within 30 days of course registration, so it’s essential you do this to remain enrolled.

The UNC System requires students who meet certain criteria to carry health insurance. UNCG offers the Student Blue plan from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Two to three days after you register for classes, you should receive a notification from Student Blue to your FSU email that you can access the portal (http://studentbluenc.com/fsu) to either enroll in the plan or – if you have qualifying alternate insurance – waive coveragePlease note, inaction will result in eventual default enrollment in the plan, including responsibility for the cost of the policy.
